Rama, scion of the Kakutstha dynasty, worshipped Suyajna with a collection of golden ornaments such as earrings, anklets, armlets, bracelets and many other ornaments of precious stones. Then urged by Sita, Rama said to him:
hārṃ ca hemasūtrṃ ca bhāryāyai saumya hāraya| raśanāṃ cādhunā sītā dātumicchati te sakhe||2.32.7||

सौम्य O handsome, सखे friend, सीता Sita, अधुना at this time, हारं च necklace also, हेमसूत्रं च golden chain, रशनां च also girdle, ते to you, दातुम् to give, इच्छति wishes, भार्यायै to your wife, हारय take them.
Meaning
O handsome friend now Sita intends to give away to your wife her necklace, her golden chain and girdle. Could you accept them?
सखे O friend, वनम् to the forest, गच्छती departing Sita, भार्यायैः to your wife, अङ्गदानि anklets, विचित्राणि wonderful, शुभानि auspicious, केयुराणि च bracelets, तुभ्यम् to you, प्रयच्छति is offering.

Sita is departing for the forest and offers your wife her armlets, wonderful and elegant bracelets.
वैदेही Sita, अग्य्रास्तरणम् exquisite bed cover, नानारत्नविभूषितम् encrusted with various gems, तं पर्यङ्कम् that couch, अपि also, त्वयि in you, प्रतिष्ठापयितुम् to place (in your house), इच्छति wishes.

द्विजसत्तम O best among brahmins, अयम् this one, शत्रुञ्जयो नाम by name Satrunjaya, नागः an elephant, मातुलः my maternal uncle, मम to me, ददौ gave, तम् to that (elephant), गजसहस्रेण along with a thousand elephants, ते to you, ददामि I am giving.

Thus addressed by Rama, Suyajna accepted the gifts and conferred auspicious blessings on Rama, Lakshmana and Sita.
अथ thereafter, प्रियंवद: sweettongued, रामः Rama, प्रियम् to his beloved, भ्रातरम् to his brother, तं सौमित्रिम् to Lakshmana, ब्रह्मा creator, त्रिदशेश्वरम् इव like lord of heaven, Indra, अव्यग्रम् without haste, इदम् this word, उवाच said.

O Lakshmana, give away chariots, maidservants, silk clothes to learned brahmins of Taittiriya branch and wellversed in the Vedas, to agreeable and faithful brahmins attending on Kausalya with their blessings till they are fully satisfied.
आर्यसचिवः noble counsellor (of our father), चित्ररथः Chitraratha, सूतः charioteer, सुचिरोषितः lived with us for many years, एनम् him, महार्है: with invaluable, रत्नैश्च with jewels, वस्त्रै: clothes, तथा similarly, धनैः with wealth,सर्वाभिः with all ,पशुकाभिः च with young female calves, गवाम् cows, दशशतेन च by (a thousand) ten hundreds, तोषय you may gratify him.

Noble counsellor (of our father) and charioteer Chitraratha has been in our service for many years. Gratify him with invaluable jewels, clothes, wealth, with young female calves and a thousand cows.

कठकालापाः men versed in Katha and Kalapa portions of the Vedas, ये which, इमे these, बहवः many, दण्डमाणवाः brahmacharis holding a staff (as authority given to an ascetic), नित्यस्वाध्यायशीलत्वात् engaged daily in the study of Vedas, अन्यत् other, किञ्चन any work, न कुर्वन्ति not doing, अलसाः inactive people, स्वादुकामाश्च fond of delicious food, महतां चापि even for great people, सम्मताः are highly respected, तेषाम् for them, रत्नपूर्णानि filled with gems, अशीतियानानि eighty carts, शालिवाहसहस्रं च a thousand bulls capable of carrying corn, द्वे शते two hundred, भद्रकान् bulls, दापय arrange to give away, सौमित्रे O Lakshmana व्यञ्जनार्थम् for preparing food (with milk products), गोसहस्रम् a thousand cows, उपाकुरु arrange to give away.

O Lakshmana many brahmacharis with a staff (as a mark of religious authority) wellversed in Katha and Kalapa portions of the Vedas engaged daily in the study of the Vedas and nothing else. Not active otherwise, they are fond of delicious food and are respected even by great people. Give them eighty carts filled with gems, a thousand bulls capable of carrying paddy, and two hundred oxen capable of ploughing land and a thousand cows for preparing food (with milk products).
सौमित्रे O Lakshmana मेखलीनाम् of brahmacharis (who wear a triple girdle worn by the first three castes), महासङ्घः in large numbers, कौशल्याम् of Kausalya, समुपस्थितः depending on, तेषाम् to them, प्रत्येकम् for each of them, सहस्रम् thousand (cows), सम्प्रदापय gift away.

You should, O Lakshmana treat all those brahmins in such a way that my mother shall be pleased on seeing my respectful offerings.
ततः thereupon, पुरुषव्याघ्रः tiger among men (best of men), सः लक्ष्मणः that Lakshmana, धनदो यथा like Kubera, bestower of wealth, तत् धनम् that wealth, यथोक्तम् as told (by Rama), स्वयम् personally, ब्राह्मणेन्द्राणाम् to the Indras among brahmins (best brahmins), अददात् gave.

Thereupon Lakshmana, a tiger among men, personally distributed like Kubera, gifts of riches to all those Indras among brahmins (best of brahmins) in accordance with the instructions of Rama.
अथ thereafter, बाष्पकलान् men with their throats choked with tears, तिष्ठतः remaining, उपजीविनः dependents, एकैकस्य for each one of them, बहु abundance of, द्रव्यम् wealth, उपजीवनम् as subsistence, सम्प्रदाय having bestowed, अब्रवीत् said.

Rama then bestowed abundant wealth on each of the dependents as they stood with their throats choked with tears, saying:
lakṣmaṇasya ca yadveśma gṛhṃ ca yadidṃ mama||2.32.25|| aśūnyṃ kāryamekaikṃ yāvadāgamanṃ mama|
Translation
लक्ष्मणस्य Lakshmana's, यत् which, वेश्म palace, मम my, इदम् this, यत् which, गृहं च palace also, एकैकम् each one, मम my, यावदागमनम् till I return, अशून्यम् without being unattended, कार्यम् fit to be done.
Meaning
Till I come back, guard each of the palaces of Lakshmana and mine and ensure that they are not left unattended.
दुःखितम् filled with grief, उपजीविनम् dependents, सर्वम् all, तं जनम् to that group, इति thus, उक्त्वा having said, धनम् treasure, आनीयताम् bring, इति thus, इदम् this word, धनाध्यक्षम् to treasury officer, उवाच said.

Having spoken thus to all dependents who were overcome with grief, Rama ordered the treasury officer to bring the entire treasure.
ततः then, पुरुषव्याघ्रः tiger among men (best of men), सः that Rama, सहलक्ष्मणः along with Lakshmana, तत् धनम् that wealth, द्विजेभ्यः to brahmins, बालवृद्धेभ्यः to the young and old, कृपणेभ्यः to the poor, अदापयत् got it distributed.

A brahmin by name, Trijata, a descendant of sage Garga and of reddishbrown colour used to live in that region earning his livelihood in the forest by digging the earth with an ironspade and a plough.

At the words of his wife, Trijata took the path to Rama's palace, having wrapped himself with a torn upper garment .
जनसंसदि in the crowd, दीप्त्या in lustre, भृग्वङ्गिरसमम् like Bhrugu and Angirasa, एनम् this, त्रिजटम् Trijata, आपञ्चमायाः कक्ष्यायाः up to the fifth courtyard, कश्चित् any one, न अवारयत् did not stop him.

No one in the crowd stopped Tirjata until he reached the fifth courtyard as he looked like Bhrigu and Angirasa in brilliance.

Rama jokingly replied to him, I have not yet gifted one thousand cows. Throw your staff and the cows on the space your staff covers will be yours.

The virtuous Rama embraced Trijata, and despatched all the cattle extending up to the bank of Sarayu to his hermitage.

ततः afterwards, रामः Rama, तं गार्ग्यम् that Gargya, अभिसान्त्वयन् consoling (him), उवाच said, मन्युः anger, न खलु कर्तव्यः should not be made, अयम् this, मम my, परिहासः a joke.

Afterwards Rama sought to placate Trijata, that descendant of Ganga, saying: This was a joke. Do not be angry.
bravīmi satyena nate'sti yantraṇā dhanṃ hi yadyanmama viprakāraṇāt| bhavatsu samyakpratipādanena ta nmayārjitṃ prītiyaśaskarṃ bhavet||2.32.42||

सत्येन truly, ब्रवीमि I speak, ते to you, यन्त्रणा restraint (to seek this much only), नास्ति is not there, मम my, यद्यत् whichever, धनम् wealth, विप्रकारणात् हि indeed for brahmins only, मया by me, र्जितम् earned, तत् that, भवत्सु in you, सम्यक् correctly, प्रतिपादनेन by offering, प्रीतियशस्करम् भवेत् gives me pleasure and renown.

Truly speaking, there is no limit to seeking wealth. My wealth is specifically meant for brahmins. By distributing all the wealth earned by me, I get pleasure and renown.
ततः thereafter, सभार्यः along with his wife, महामुनिः great sage, त्रिजटः Trijata, गवाम् cows, अनीकम् multitude, प्रतिगृह्य having accepted, मोदितः delighted, तदा then, महात्मनः magnanimous (Rama), यशोबलप्रीतिसुखोपबृंहणीः enhancing glory, power, pleasure and prosperity, आशिषः blessings, प्रत्यवदत् gave in reply.

Thereafter that great sage Trijata along with his wife, immensely happy to receive multitudes of cows, pronounced blessings on the magnanimous Rama for glory, power, pleasure and prosperity.

सः that, राम: चापि Rama also, प्रतिपूर्णमानसः with completely satisfied mind, धर्मबलैः through dharma, उपार्जितम् earned, महत् धनम् vast wealth, अचिरात् without delay, यथार्हसम्मानवचः प्रचोदितः prompted by the deserving words of acclaim, सुहृज्जने among his friends, नियोजयामास offered.

Prompted by the deserving words of acclaim from his friends, Rama distributed with joy and without delay the entire wealth earned by him through dharma.

तत्र there, तदा then, यः such, द्विज: a brahmin, सुहृत् friend, अथवा or, भृत्यजनः servant, दरिद्र भिक्षाचरणश्च poor or beggar, कश्चित् any one, यथार्हसम्माननदानसम्भ्रमैः with the befitting honour or with charity, न तर्पितः not satisfied, न बभूव there was none.
Meaning
Thus there was none among those brahmins, attendants, poor people, and beggars, who was not satisfied with the honour (received) or with the charity. इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये अयोध्याकाण्डे द्वात्रिंशस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the thirtysecond sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
