Kishkindha Kanda 5.1

ऋश्यमूकात्तु हनुमान्गत्वा तु मलयं गिरिम्। आचचक्षे तदा वीरौ कपिराजाय राघवौ4.5.1।।

ṛśyamūkāttu hanumāngatvā tu malayṃ girim| ācacakṣe tadā vīrau kapirājāya rāghavau4.5.1||

Translation

हनुमान् Hanuman, ऋष्यमूकात् from Rishyamuka, मलयं Malaya, गिरिम् mountain, गत्वा on going, कपिराजाय to the lord of the monkeys, तदा then, वीरौ the two heroes, राघवौ Raghavas, आचचक्षे seeing announced (the arrival)

Meaning

Leaving Rishyamuka, Hanuman reached the Malaya mountain. Seeing the chief of monkeys there, he announced the arrival of the heroic Raghavas.

Kishkindha Kanda 5.2

अयं रामो महाप्राज्ञ स्सम्प्राप्तो दृढविक्रमः। लक्ष्मणेन सह भ्रात्रा रामोऽयं सत्यविक्रमः4.5.2।।

ayṃ rāmo mahāprājña ssamprāpto dṛḍhavikramḥ| lakṣmaṇena saha bhrātrā rāmo'yṃ satyavikramḥ4.5.2||

Translation

महाप्राज्ञः very wise, दृढविक्रम: unfailing in valour, अयं रामः this Rama, भ्रात्रा with brother, लक्ष्मणेन सह along with Lakshmana, सम्प्राप्तः has arrived, अयं रामः this Rama, सत्यविक्रमः endowed with the power of truth

Meaning

'This Rama of greatwisdom and valour, endowed with the power of truth has arrived here along with his brother Lakshmana.

Kishkindha Kanda 5.3

इक्ष्वाकूणां कुले जातो रामो दशरथात्मजः। धर्मे निगदितश्चैव पितुर्निर्देशपारगः4.5.3।।

ikṣvākūṇāṃ kule jāto rāmo daśarathātmajḥ| dharme nigaditaścaiva piturnirdeśapāragḥ4.5.3||

Translation

इक्ष्वाकूणाम् of Ikshvakus, कुले in the race, जातः he is born, दशरथात्मजः Dasaratha's son, रामः Rama, धर्मे in righteousness, निगदितश्चैव is noteworthy, पितुः father's, निर्देशपारगः

Meaning

'Born in the Ikshvaku race Rama Dasaratha's son, distinguished for his righteousness is here to carry out the orders of his father.

KK-5-4
Kishkindha Kanda 5.4

तस्यास्य वसतोऽरण्ये नियतस्य महात्मनः। रावणेन हृता भार्या त्वां शरणमागतः4.5.4।।

tasyāsya vasato'raṇye niyatasya mahātmanḥ| rāvaṇena hṛtā bhāryā sa tvāṃ śaraṇamāgatḥ4.5.4||

Translation

अरण्ये in the forest, वसतः living , नियतस्य self controlled , तस्य his, अस्य this man, महात्मनः great man's, भार्या wife, रावणेन by Ravana, हृता is abducted, सः he, त्वाम् to you, शरणम् आगतः has come to you to seek refuge

Meaning

'While the great Rama armed with selfrestraint was living in the forest, his wife was abducted by Ravana. So he has come to you seeing refuge.

KK-5-5-6
Kishkindha Kanda 5.5–6 (युग्मम्)

राजसूयाश्वमेधैश्च वह्निर्येनाभितर्पितः। दक्षिणाश्च तथोत्सृष्टा गावश्शतसहस्रशः4.5.5।। तपसा सत्यवाक्येन वसुधा येन पालिता। स्त्री हेतोस्तस्य पुत्रोऽयं रामस्त्वां शरणं गतः4.5.6।।

rājasūyāśvamedhaiśca vahniryenābhitarpitḥ| dakṣiṇāśca tathotsṛṣṭā gāvaśśatasahasraśḥ4.5.5|| tapasā satyavākyena vasudhā yena pālitā| strī hetostasya putro'yṃ rāmastvāṃ śaraṇṃ gatḥ4.5.6||

Translation

येन by whom, राजसूयाश्वमेधैश्च by Rajasuya and Aswamedha yajnas, वह्निः god of fire, अभितर्पितः is gratified, तथा so also, शतसहस्रशः in hundreds and thousands, गावः cows, दक्षिणाः sacrificial gifts, उत्सृष्टाः येन by whom given, तपसा by practising religious austerity, सत्यवाक्येन justly, वसुधा earth, पालिता is ruled, तस्य his, पुत्रः son, अयं रामः this is Rama, स्त्री हेतोः on account of a woman, शरणम् refuge, समागतः came here

Meaning

'This Rama, son of a king who had gratified the firegod through many yajnas like Rajasuya and Aswamedha, gifted hundreds of thousands of cows and ruled this earth with truth and austerity, has come seeking help for a woman.'

Kishkindha Kanda 5.7

भवता सख्यकामौ तौ भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ। प्रतिगृह्यार्चयस्वैतौ पूजनीयतमावुभौ4.5.7।।

bhavatā sakhyakāmau tau bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau| pratigṛhyārcayasvaitau pūjanīyatamāvubhau4.5.7||

Translation

भ्रातरौ brothers, तौ both, रामलक्ष्मणौ Rama and Lakshmana, भवता by you, सख्यकामौ for friendship, पूजनीयतमौ are worthiest of worship, एतौ both of them, उभौ both, प्रतिगृह्य may receive, अर्चयस्व welcome with all reverence

Meaning

'Both the brothers, Rama and Lakshmana seek friendship with you. As both of them are worthiest of worship, welcome them with due reverence.'

KK-5-8-9
Kishkindha Kanda 5.8–9 (युग्मम्)

श्रुत्वा हनुमतो वाक्यं सुग्रीवो हृष्टमानसः। भयं चराघवाद्घोरं प्रजहौ विगतज्वरः।।4.5.8।। सकृत्वा मानुषं रूपं सुग्रीवः प्लवगर्षभः। दर्शनीयतमो भूत्वा प्रीत्या प्रोवाच राघवम्4.5.9।।

śrutvā hanumato vākyṃ sugrīvo hṛṣṭamānasḥ| bhayṃ carāghavādghorṃ prajahau vigatajvarḥ||4.5.8|| sakṛtvā mānuṣṃ rūpṃ sugrīvḥ plavagarṣabhḥ| darśanīyatamo bhūtvā prītyā provāca rāghavam4.5.9||

Translation

हृष्टमानसः delighted at heart, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, हनुमतः Hanuman's, वाक्यम् word, श्रुत्वा having heard, भयं च and fear, राघवा Raghava, घोरं terrible, प्रजहौ abandoned, विगतज्वरः devoid of fear, प्रीत्या lovingly, दर्शनीयतमः most attractive, सकृत्वा having taken, मानुषं रूपं human form, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, प्लवगर्षभः best among monkeys, भूत्वा having given up, राघवम् of Raghava, (प्र)उवाच said,

Meaning

Hanuman's words took away Sugriva's great fear for Rama and filled him with cheer. This bull among monkeys gave up his natural appearance and and assuming an attractive human form spoke to Rama lovingly:

Kishkindha Kanda 5.10

भवान्धर्मविनीतश्च विक्रान्तस्सर्ववत्सलः। आख्याता वायुपुत्रेण तत्त्वतो मे भवद्गुणाः4.5.10।।

bhavāndharmavinītaśca vikrāntassarvavatsalḥ| ākhyātā vāyuputreṇa tattvato me bhavadguṇāḥ4.5.10||

Translation

भवान् you, धर्मविनीतश्च educated in all dharmas, विक्रान्तः a great hero, सर्ववत्सलः kind to all beings, भवद्गुणाः your virtues, वायुपुत्रेण by the son of the windgod, तत्त्वतः truly, मे to me, आख्याताः apprised

Meaning

'You are a great hero, affectionate to all and wellversed in all dharmas. The son of the Windgod has, in fact, apprised me of your virtues

Kishkindha Kanda 5.11

तन्ममैवैष सत्कारो लाभश्चैवोत्तमः प्रभो। यत्त्वमिच्छसि सौहार्दं वानरेण मया सह4.5.11।।

tanmamaivaiṣa satkāro lābhaścaivottamḥ prabho| yattvamicchasi sauhārdṃ vānareṇa mayā saha4.5.11||

Translation

प्रभो O Lord, तत् that, त्वम् you, वानरेण by a monkey, मया सह with me, सौहार्दम् friendship, इच्छसि (इति) यत् that you are wishing, एषः that way, ममैव for myself, सत्कारः an honour, उत्तमः best, लाभश्च benefit

Meaning

'O Lord that you are eager to have friendship with me, who is a monkey is a great honour and is extremely beneficial to me.

KK-5-12
Kishkindha Kanda 5.12

रोचते यदि वा सख्यं बाहुरेष प्रसारितः। गृह्यतां पाणिना पाणिर्मर्यादा बध्यतां ध्रुवा4.5.12।।

rocate yadi vā sakhyṃ bāhureṣa prasāritḥ| gṛhyatāṃ pāṇinā pāṇirmaryādā badhyatāṃ dhruvā4.5.12||

Translation

वा if , सख्यम् friendship, रोचते यदि is desired, एषः this is, बाहुः my arm, प्रसारितः stretched, पाणिना on my hand, पाणिः your hand, गृह्यताम् may be received, ध्रुवा firm, मर्यादा with due2 2regard, बध्यताम् may be bound

Meaning

'If you are desirous of my friendship, here is my arm (palm) stretched out to you. With due regard, establish our bond firmly, holding my palm in yours.'

KK-5-13
Kishkindha Kanda 5.13

एतत्तु वचनं श्रुत्वा सुग्रीवेण सुभाषितम्। सम्प्रहृष्टमना हस्तं पीडयामास पाणिना4.5.13।। हृद्यं सौहृदमालम्ब्यपर्यष्वजत पीडितम्।

etattu vacanṃ śrutvā sugrīveṇa subhāṣitam| samprahṛṣṭamanā hastṃ pīḍayāmāsa pāṇinā4.5.13|| hṛdyṃ sauhṛdamālambyaparyaṣvajata pīḍitam|

Translation

सुग्रीवेण(सुग्रीवस्य) Sugriva's, सुभाषितम् wellsaid,एतत् this,वचनम् word,श्रुत्वा having heard, सम्प्रहृष्टमनाः became very happy, पाणिना with the hand, हस्तम् hand, पीडयामास pressed, सौहृदम् affectionately, आलम्ब्य maintaining, हृद्यं delighted , पीडितम् getting close, पर्यष्वजत firmly hugged

Meaning

Rama became very happy to hear Sugriva's warm words and pressed his hand with his. Delighted, he went close to Sugriva and hugged him tightly and affectionately.

KK-5-14-15
Kishkindha Kanda 5.14–15 (युग्मम्)

ततो हनूमान्सन्त्यज्य भिक्षुरूपमरिन्दमः।।4.5.14।। काष्ठयोस्स्वेन रूपेण जनयामास पावकम्। दीप्यमानं ततो वह्निं ह्निं पुष्पैरभ्यर्च्य सत्कृतम्4.5.15।। तयोर्मध्येऽथ सुप्रीतो निदधे सुसमाहितः।

tato hanūmānsantyajya bhikṣurūpamarindamḥ||4.5.14|| kāṣṭhayossvena rūpeṇa janayāmāsa pāvakam| dīpyamānṃ tato vahniṃ hniṃ puṣpairabhyarcya satkṛtam4.5.15|| tayormadhye'tha suprīto nidadhe susamāhitḥ|

Translation

ततः thereafter, अरिन्दमः vanquisher of enemies, हनुमान् Hanuman, भिक्षुरूपम् mendicant form, सन्त्यज्य giving up, स्वेन by his real, रूपेण form, काष्ठयोः two pieces of wood, पावकम् fire, जनयामास generated, ततः then, दीप्यमानम् glowing, सत्कृतम् a spot of worship, वह्निम् into fire, पुष्पैः of flowers, अभ्यर्च्य made an offering, सुसमाहितः vigilant, सुप्रीतः a pleased one, तयोः of them, मध्ये in between, निदधे placed

Meaning

Then, Hanuman vanquisher of enemies, gave up his guise of a mendicant, assumed his natural form and generated fire by rubbing two pieces of wood. Wellpleased at heart, he made an offering of flowers to the flaming fire and placed it between them.

KK-5-16
Kishkindha Kanda 5.16

ततोऽग्निं दीप्यमानं तौ चक्रतुश्च प्रदक्षिणम्।।4.5.16।। सुग्रीवो राघवश्चैव वयस्यत्वमुपागतौ।

tato'gniṃ dīpyamānṃ tau cakratuśca pradakṣiṇam||4.5.16|| sugrīvo rāghavaścaiva vayasyatvamupāgatau|

Translation

ततः then, तौ both of them, दीप्यमानम् blazing, अग्निम् fire, प्रदक्षिणं चक्रतुः went round, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, राघवश्चैव and Raghava also, वयस्यत्वम् friendship, उपागतौ both established

Meaning

They both circumambulated the blazing fire and solemnized their friendship.

KK-5-17
Kishkindha Kanda 5.17

ततस्सुप्रीतमनसौ तावुभौ हरिराघवौ4.5.17।। अन्योन्यमभिवीक्षन्तौ तृप्तिमुपजग्मतुः।

tatassuprītamanasau tāvubhau harirāghavau4.5.17|| anyonyamabhivīkṣantau na tṛptimupajagmatuḥ|

Translation

ततः then, सुप्रीतमनसौ both delighted at heart, तौ both, हरिराघवौ Sugriva and Rama, उभौ both, अन्योन्यम् each other, अभिवीक्षन्तौ looking at each other, तृप्तिम् contented, न अभिजग्मतुः yet not fully content

Meaning

Rama and the monkey contented at heart, yet not fully content, continued looking at each other.

KK-5-18
Kishkindha Kanda 5.18

त्वं वयस्योऽसि मे हृद्यो ह्येकं दुःखं सुखं नौ4.5.18।। सुग्रीवो राघवं वाक्यमित्युवाच प्रहृष्टवत्।

tvṃ vayasyo'si me hṛdyo hyekṃ duḥkhṃ sukhṃ ca nau4.5.18|| sugrīvo rāghavṃ vākyamityuvāca prahṛṣṭavat|

Translation

त्वम् you, मे to me, हृद्यः dear, वयस्यः friend, असि you are, नौ for both of us, सुखम् pleasure, दुःखं च and sorrow, ह्येकम् are one and the same, इति thus, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, प्रहृष्टवत् happy, वाक्यम् words, उवाच said.

Meaning

'You are a dear friend to me. Your sorrow is my sorrow, your pleasure is my pleasure. We are one and the same' said Sugriva to Rama, his heart overflowing with happiness.

KK-5-19
Kishkindha Kanda 5.19

ततस्सुपर्णबहुलां छित्वा शाखां सुपुष्पिताम्4.5.19।। सालस्यास्तीर्य सुग्रीवो निषसाद सराघवः।

tatassuparṇabahulāṃ chitvā śākhāṃ supuṣpitām4.5.19|| sālasyāstīrya sugrīvo niṣasāda sarāghavḥ|

Translation

ततः then, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, सालस्य of a Sala tree, सुपर्णबहुलाम् with luxuriant leaves, सुपुष्पिताम् wellblossomed, शाखाम् branch, छित्वा cut, आस्तीर्य spread, सराघवः along with Rama, निषसाद sat down.

Meaning

Then Sugriva cut the branch of a sala tree with luxuriant leaves and flowers, spread it on the ground and sat down along with Raghava.

KK-5-20
Kishkindha Kanda 5.20

लक्ष्मणायाथ संहृष्टो हनूमान् प्लवगर्षभः4.5.20।। शाखां चन्दनवृक्षस्य ददौ परमपुष्पिताम्।

lakṣmaṇāyātha sṃhṛṣṭo hanūmān plavagarṣabhḥ4.5.20|| śākhāṃ candanavṛkṣasya dadau paramapuṣpitām|

Translation

अथ then, संहृष्टः very happy, प्लवगर्षभः bull among monkeys, हनुमान् Hanuman, चन्दनवृक्षस्य sandal tree, परमपुष्पिताम् full of flowers, शाखाम् branch, लक्ष्मणाय to Lakshmana, ददौ gave.

Meaning

Then Hanuman, the bull among monkeys, felt very happy, cut the branch of a sandalwood tree full of flowers and gave it to Lakshmana.

Kishkindha Kanda 5.21

ततः प्रहृष्टस्सुग्रीवः श्लक्ष्णं मधुरया गिरा4.5.21।। प्रत्युवाच तदा रामं हर्षव्याकुललोचनः।

tatḥ prahṛṣṭassugrīvḥ ślakṣṇṃ madhurayā girā4.5.21|| pratyuvāca tadā rāmṃ harṣavyākulalocanḥ|

Translation

ततः then, प्रहृष्टः overwhelmed with joy, सुग्रीवः Sugriva, हर्षव्याकुललोचनः eyes sparkling with joy, तदा then, रामम् Rama, मधुरया in sweet, गिरा with words, श्लक्ष्णम् gently, प्रत्युवाच replied.

Meaning

Then Sugriva, eyes sparkling with joy, replied to Rama in a sweet, gentle voice.

KK-5-22
Kishkindha Kanda 5.22

अहं विनिकृतो राम चरामीह भयार्दितः4.5.22।। हृतभार्यो वने त्रस्तो दुर्गमेतदुपाश्रितः।

ahṃ vinikṛto rāma carāmīha bhayārditḥ4.5.22|| hṛtabhāryo vane trasto durgametadupāśritḥ|

Translation

राम Rama, अहम् I, विनिकृतः badly insulted, हृतभार्यः wife hijacked, भयार्दितः stricken with fear, इह here, वने in the forest, चरामि I am moving, त्रस्तः frightened, दुर्गम् in accessible, एतत् this, उपाश्रितः taken refuge.

Meaning

'O Rama, I have been insulted deeply and my wife hijacked. Stricken with fear I have taken refuge in this inaccessible forest.

Kishkindha Kanda 5.23

सोऽहं त्रस्तो वने भीतो वसाम्युद्भ्रान्तचेतनः4.5.23।। वालिना निकृतो भ्रात्रा कृतवैरश्च राघव।

so'hṃ trasto vane bhīto vasāmyudbhrāntacetanḥ4.5.23|| vālinā nikṛto bhrātrā kṛtavairaśca rāghava|

Translation

राघव O Rama, भ्रात्रा by my brother, वालिना Vali, निकृतः humiliated, कृतवैरश्च developed enmity, सः अहम् such a person, त्रस्तः frightened, उद्भ्रान्तचेतनः with unsteady mind, वने in the forest, भीतः fearing, वसामि I am living.

Meaning

'O Rama humiliated by my brother Vali, I have developed enmity with him. Terribly distraught and disturbed I live in this forest in great fear.

KK-5-24
Kishkindha Kanda 5.24

वालिनो मे महाभाग भयार्तस्याभयं कुरु4.5.24।। कर्तुमर्हसि काकुत्स्थ भयं मे भवेद्यथा।

vālino me mahābhāga bhayārtasyābhayṃ kuru4.5.24|| kartumarhasi kākutstha bhayṃ me na bhavedyathā|

Translation

महाभाग reverend, वालिनः from Vali, भयार्तस्य feeling helpless with fear, मे to me, अभयम् security, कुरु give me, काकुत्स्थ Kakusta, मे यथा as I, भयम् fear, न भवेत् may not be, कर्तुम् to do, अर्हसि you ought to.

Meaning

'O reverend Kakutstha, I feel helpless with fear from Vali. Save me. You should release me free from fear.'

KK-5-25
Kishkindha Kanda 5.25

एवमुक्तस्तु तेजस्वी धर्मज्ञो धर्मवत्सलः4.5.25।। प्रत्यभाषत काकुत्स्थ: सुग्रीवं प्रहसन्निव।

evamuktastu tejasvī dharmajño dharmavatsalḥ4.5.25|| pratyabhāṣata kākutstha: sugrīvṃ prahasanniva|

Translation

एवम् that way, उक्तः having addressed, तेजस्वी glorious, धर्मज्ञः righteous man, धर्मवत्सलः lover of dharma, काकुत्स्थः Kakutstha, प्रहसन्निव with gentle smile on the face, सुग्रीवम् to Sugriva, प्रत्यभाषत replied.

Meaning

The righteous and glorious Rama to whom dharma is very dear said to Sugriva with a gentle smile on his face, when he was entreated thus:

Kishkindha Kanda 5.26

उपकारफलं मित्रं विदितं मे महाकपे4.5.26।। वालिनं तं वधिष्यामि तव भार्यापहारिणम्।

upakāraphalṃ mitrṃ viditṃ me mahākape4.5.26|| vālinṃ tṃ vadhiṣyāmi tava bhāryāpahāriṇam|

Translation

महाकपे O great monkey, मित्रम् a friend, उपकारफलम् result of doing a good deed, मे to me, विदितम् is known, तव your, भार्यापहारिणम् one who has stolen your wife, तं वालिनम् that Valin, वधिष्यामि I will kill.

Meaning

'O great monkey I know friendship is the fruit of a beneficial deed. I will kill that Vali who has usurped your wife.

KK-5-27-28
Kishkindha Kanda 5.27–28 (युग्मम्)

अमोघास्सूर्यसङ्काशा ममैते निशिताश्शराः4.5.27।। तस्मिन्वालिनि दुर्वृत्ते निपतिष्यन्ति वेगिताः। कङ्कपत्रप्रतिच्छन्ना महेन्द्राशनिसन्निभाः4.5.28।। तीक्ष्णाग्रा ऋजुपर्वाणस्सरोषा भुजगा इव।

amoghāssūryasaṅkāśā mamaite niśitāśśarāḥ4.5.27|| tasminvālini durvṛtte nipatiṣyanti vegitāḥ| kaṅkapatrapraticchannā mahendrāśanisannibhāḥ4.5.28|| tīkṣṇāgrā ṛjuparvāṇassaroṣā bhujagā iva|

Translation

अमोघाः unfailing, सूर्यसङ्कशाः comparable to Sun, निशिताः sharp, कङ्कपत्रप्रतिच्छन्नाः covered with the feathers of a kanka bird, महेन्द्राशनिसन्निभाः equal to great India's thunderbolt, तीक्ष्णाग्राः with a sharp tip, ऋजुपर्वाणः straight, सरोषाः angry, भुजगाः इव like serpents, इमे these, मम शराः my arrows, वेगिताः soon, दुर्वृत्ते at the miscreant, तस्मिन् at him, वालिनि at Vali, निपतिष्यन्ति they will strike.

Meaning

'These arrows covered with kanka feathers, sharp and straight at the tip, comparable to great Indra's thunderbolt are (burning bright) like the sun. Looking like angry serpents, they will unfailingly strike at the miscreant Vali soon.

Kishkindha Kanda 5.29

तमद्य वालिनं पश्य तीक्ष्णैराशीविषोपमैः4.5.29।। शरैर्विनिहतं भूमौ विकीर्णमिव पर्वतम्।

tamadya vālinṃ paśya tīkṣṇairāśīviṣopamaiḥ4.5.29|| śarairvinihatṃ bhūmau vikīrṇamiva parvatam|

Translation

अद्य now, आशीविषोपमैः comparable to serpents, तीक्ष्णैः sharp, शरैः arrows, विनिहतम् killed, भूमौ on the ground, प्रकीर्णम् will fall shattered, पर्वतमिव like a mountain, वालिनम् Vali, पश्य see.

Meaning

'With these sharp, serpentlike arrows Vali will be killed. He will fall down on the ground like a mountain shattered.You will see it now'.

KK-5-30
Kishkindha Kanda 5.30

तु तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा राघवस्यात्मनो हितम्4.5.30।। सुग्रीवः परमप्रीतस्सुमहद्वाक्यमब्रवीत्।

sa tu tadvacanṃ śrutvā rāghavasyātmano hitam4.5.30|| sugrīvḥ paramaprītassumahadvākyamabravīt|

Translation

सः सुग्रीवः that Sugriva, आत्मनः for himself, हितम् welfare, राघवस्य Rama's, तत् वचनम् those words, श्रुत्वा after hearing, परमप्रीतः very much pleased, सुमहान् very great, वाक्यम् words, अब्रवीत् said.

Meaning

Sugriva, very much pleased with the words of Rama, spoke highly (of him).

KK-5-31
Kishkindha Kanda 5.31

तव प्रसादेन नृसिंह राघव प्रियां राज्यं समाप्नुयामहम्। तथा कुरु त्वं नरदेव वैरिणं यथा निहंस्यद्य रिपुंममाग्रजम्4.5.31।।

tava prasādena nṛsiṃha rāghava priyāṃ ca rājyṃ ca samāpnuyāmaham| tathā kuru tvṃ naradeva vairiṇṃ yathā nihṃsyadya ripuṃmamāgrajam4.5.31||

Translation

नृसिंह lion among men, तव your, प्रसादेन by your grace, अहम् I am, प्रियां च wife and, राज्यं च kingdom, समाप्नुयाम् will attain, नरदेव king, सः he, पुनः again, यथा as, निहंस्यद्य will destroy, तथा thus, त्वम् you, वैरिणम् enemy, मम अग्रजम् my elder brother, कुरु do.

Meaning

'O Rama, by your grace I will get my wife and kingdom back. O king accomplish this so that I can destroy my, elder brother, my enemy, O lion among men

Kishkindha Kanda 5.32

सीता कपीन्द्रक्षणदाचराणां राजीवहेमज्वलनोपमानि। सुग्रीवरामप्रणयप्रसङ्गे वामानि नेत्राणि समं स्फुरन्ति4.5.32।।

sītā kapīndrakṣaṇadācarāṇāṃ rājīvahemajvalanopamāni| sugrīvarāmapraṇayaprasaṅge vāmāni netrāṇi samṃ sphuranti4.5.32||

Translation

सुग्रीवरामप्रणयप्रसङ्गे while Sugriva and Rama were making a friendly alliance, सीताकपीन्द्रक्षणदाचराणाम् Sita's, Vali's and also Ravana's, राजीवहेमज्वलनोपमानि lotuslike and blazing like gold, वामानिनेत्राणि left eyes, समम् equally, स्फुरन्ति throbbed.

Meaning

While Sugriva was making a friendly alliance with Rama, Sita's left eye, like lotus, Vali's left eye glittering like gold and Ravana's left eye blazing (like fire) twitched at the same time for a moment (Twitching of left eye is considered auspicious to a woman and ominous to a man). इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीय आदिकाव्ये किष्किन्धाकाण्डे पञ्चमस्सर्गः।। Thus ends the fifth sarga of Kishkindakanda of the Holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.
