विसृज्य च महाबाहुर्ऋक्षवानरराक्षसान् । भ्रातृभिः सहितो रामः प्रमुमोद सुखं सुखी ।। 7.41.1 ।।
visṛjya ca mahābāhurṛkṣavānararākṣasān | bhrātṛbhiḥ sahito rāmaḥ pramumoda sukhaṃ sukhī || 7.41.1 ||
Translation
Having dismissed the bears, vanaras, and Rakshasas, the mighty-armed Rama, together with his brothers, rejoiced in happiness, himself contented.
अथापराह्णसमये भ्रातृभिः सह राघवः । शुश्राव मधुरां वाणीमन्तरिक्षात् प्रभाषिताम् ।। 7.41.2 ।।
athāparāhṇasamaye bhrātṛbhiḥ saha rāghavaḥ | śuśrāva madhurāṃ vāṇīmantarikṣāt prabhāṣitām || 7.41.2 ||
Translation
Then, in the afternoon hours, Raghava, in the company of his brothers, heard a sweet voice spoken from the sky.
सौम्य राम निरीक्षस्व सौम्येन वदनेन माम् । कुबेरभवनात्प्राप्तं विद्धि मां पुष्पकं प्रभो ।। 7.41.3 ।।
saumya rāma nirīkṣasva saumyena vadanena mām | kuberabhavanātprāptaṃ viddhi māṃ puṣpakaṃ prabho || 7.41.3 ||
Translation
"O gentle Rama, look upon me with a kindly face. Know me, O lord, to be the Pushpaka, come back from the abode of Kubera."
तव शासनमाज्ञाय गतो ऽस्मि भवनं प्रति । उपस्थातुं नरश्रेष्ठ स च मां प्रत्यभाषत ।। 7.41.4 ।।
tava śāsanamājñāya gato 'smi bhavanaṃ prati | upasthātuṃ naraśreṣṭha sa ca māṃ pratyabhāṣata || 7.41.4 ||
Translation
"Having understood your command, O best of men, I went to that abode to attend upon him; and he, in turn, spoke to me thus:"
निर्जितस्त्वं नरेन्द्रेण राघवेण महात्मना । निहत्य युधि दुर्धर्षं रावणं राक्षसेश्वरम् ।। 7.41.5 ।।
nirjitastvaṃ narendreṇa rāghaveṇa mahātmanā | nihatya yudhi durdharṣaṃ rāvaṇaṃ rākṣaseśvaram || 7.41.5 ||
Translation
"You have been won by the king, the great-souled Raghava, who slew in battle the unassailable Ravana, the lord of the Rakshasas."
ममापि परमा प्रीतर्हते तस्मिन्दुरात्मनि । रावणे सगणे चैव सपुत्रे सहबान्धवे ।। 7.41.6 ।।
mamāpi paramā prītarhate tasmindurātmani | rāvaṇe sagaṇe caiva saputre sahabāndhave || 7.41.6 ||
Translation
"To me also there is the greatest joy, now that this wicked-souled one has been slain — Ravana, together with his hosts, his sons, and his kinsmen."
स त्वं रामेण लङ्कायां निर्जितः परमात्मना । वह सौम्य तमेव त्वमहमाज्ञापयामि ते ।। 7.41.7 ।।
sa tvaṃ rāmeṇa laṅkāyāṃ nirjitaḥ paramātmanā | vaha saumya tameva tvamahamājñāpayāmi te || 7.41.7 ||
Translation
"You were conquered by Rama, the Supreme Self, in Lanka. Therefore carry that very one, O gentle one; this I command you."
परमो ह्येष मे कामो यत्त्वं राघवनन्दनम् । वहेर्लोकस्य संयानं गच्छस्व विगतज्वरः ।। 7.41.8 ।।
paramo hyeṣa me kāmo yattvaṃ rāghavanandanam | vaherlokasya saṃyānaṃ gacchasva vigatajvaraḥ || 7.41.8 ||
Translation
"For this is my highest wish — that you should carry the delight of the Raghus, you who are the conveyance of the world. Go, free from all distress."
सो ऽहं शासनमाज्ञाय धनदस्य महात्मनः । त्वत्सकाशमनुप्राप्तो निर्विशङ्कः प्रतीक्ष माम् ।। 7.41.9 ।।
so 'haṃ śāsanamājñāya dhanadasya mahātmanaḥ | tvatsakāśamanuprāpto nirviśaṅkaḥ pratīkṣa mām || 7.41.9 ||
Translation
"And so I, having received the command of the great-souled Giver of Wealth, have come into your presence. Without any misgiving, await me."
अदृष्यः सर्वभूतानां सर्वेषां धनदाज्ञया । चराम्यहं प्रभावेण तवाज्ञां परिपालयन् ।। 7.41.10 ।।
adṛṣyaḥ sarvabhūtānāṃ sarveṣāṃ dhanadājñayā | carāmyahaṃ prabhāveṇa tavājñāṃ paripālayan || 7.41.10 ||
Translation
"By the order of the Giver of Wealth, invisible to all beings, I move about by my own power, fulfilling your command."
एवमुक्तस्तदा रामः पुष्पकेण महाबलः । उवाच पुष्पकं दृष्ट्वा विमानं पुनरागतम् ।। 7.41.11 ।।
evamuktastadā rāmaḥ puṣpakeṇa mahābalaḥ | uvāca puṣpakaṃ dṛṣṭvā vimānaṃ punarāgatam || 7.41.11 ||
Translation
Thus addressed by the Pushpaka, the mighty Rama then, beholding the chariot Pushpaka come back again, spoke to it.
यद्येवं स्वागतं ते ऽस्तु विमानवर पुष्पक । आनुकूल्याद्धनेशस्य वृत्तदोषो न नो भवेत् ।। 7.41.12 ।।
yadyevaṃ svāgataṃ te 'stu vimānavara puṣpaka | ānukūlyāddhaneśasya vṛttadoṣo na no bhavet || 7.41.12 ||
Translation
"If it be so, then welcome to you, O Pushpaka, best of chariots. Through compliance with the Lord of Wealth, let no fault of conduct fall upon us."
लाजैश्चैव तथा पुष्पैर्धूपैश्चैव सुगन्धिभिः । पूजयित्वा महाबाहू राघवः पुष्पकं तदा ।। 7.41.13 ।।
lājaiścaiva tathā puṣpairdhūpaiścaiva sugandhibhiḥ | pūjayitvā mahābāhū rāghavaḥ puṣpakaṃ tadā || 7.41.13 ||
Translation
Then the mighty-armed Raghava, having worshipped the Pushpaka with parched grain, with flowers, and with fragrant incense,
गम्यतामिति चोवाच आगच्छ त्वं स्मरे यदा । सिद्धानां च गतौ सौम्य मा विषादेन योजय । प्रतिघातश्च ते मा भूद्यथेष्टं गच्छतो दिशः ।। 7.41.14 ।।
gamyatāmiti covāca āgaccha tvaṃ smare yadā | siddhānāṃ ca gatau saumya mā viṣādena yojaya | pratighātaśca te mā bhūdyatheṣṭaṃ gacchato diśaḥ || 7.41.14 ||
Translation
said, "You may go; and come when I remember you. In the path of the perfected ones, O gentle one, do not give yourself to despair; let there be no obstruction for you as you travel to whatever quarters you wish."
एवमस्त्विति रामेण पूजयित्वा विसर्जितम् । अभिप्रेतां दिशं तस्मात्प्रायात्तत्पुष्पकं तदा ।। 7.41.15 ।।
evamastviti rāmeṇa pūjayitvā visarjitam | abhipretāṃ diśaṃ tasmātprāyāttatpuṣpakaṃ tadā || 7.41.15 ||
Translation
"So be it" — thus honored and dismissed by Rama, that Pushpaka then set out from there toward the quarter it desired.
एवमन्तर्हिते तस्मिन्पुष्पके सुकृतात्मनि । भरतः प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमुवाच रघुनन्दनम् ।। 7.41.16 ।।
evamantarhite tasminpuṣpake sukṛtātmani | bharataḥ prāñjalirvākyamuvāca raghunandanam || 7.41.16 ||
Translation
When the Pushpaka of meritorious nature had thus vanished, Bharata, with joined palms, spoke these words to the delight of the Raghus.
विविधात्मनि दृश्यन्ते त्वयि वीर प्रशासति । अमानुषाणां सत्त्वानां व्याहृतानि मुहुर्मुहुः ।। 7.41.17 ।।
vividhātmani dṛśyante tvayi vīra praśāsati | amānuṣāṇāṃ sattvānāṃ vyāhṛtāni muhurmuhuḥ || 7.41.17 ||
Translation
O hero, while you rule, beings of various kinds are seen, and again and again the utterances of non-human creatures are heard.
अनामयश्च सत्वानां साग्रो मासो गतो ह्ययम् । जीर्णानामपि सत्त्वानां मृत्युर्नायाति राघव ।। 7.41.18 ।।
anāmayaśca satvānāṃ sāgro māso gato hyayam | jīrṇānāmapi sattvānāṃ mṛtyurnāyāti rāghava || 7.41.18 ||
Translation
A full month and more has now passed without sickness among living beings; and even among the aged, O Raghava, death does not come.
अरोगप्रसवा नार्यो वपुष्मन्तो हि मानवाः । हर्षश्चाभ्यधिको राजञ्जनस्य पुरवासिनः ।। 7.41.19 ।।
arogaprasavā nāryo vapuṣmanto hi mānavāḥ | harṣaścābhyadhiko rājañjanasya puravāsinaḥ || 7.41.19 ||
Translation
Women give birth free of disease, and men are robust of body; and the joy of the city-dwelling people, O king, is exceedingly great.
काले वर्षति पर्जन्यः पातयन्नमृतं पयः । वाताश्चापि प्रवान्त्येते स्पर्शयुक्ताः सुखाः शिवाः ।। 7.41.20 ।।
kāle varṣati parjanyaḥ pātayannamṛtaṃ payaḥ | vātāścāpi pravāntyete sparśayuktāḥ sukhāḥ śivāḥ || 7.41.20 ||
Translation
The rain-cloud pours down in its proper season, sending down water like nectar; and the winds too blow pleasant to the touch, comfortable and auspicious.
ईदृशो ऽनश्वरो राजा भवेदिति नरेश्वरः । कथयन्ति पुरे राजन्पौरजानपदास्तथा ।। 7.41.21 ।।
īdṛśo 'naśvaro rājā bhavediti nareśvaraḥ | kathayanti pure rājanpaurajānapadāstathā || 7.41.21 ||
Translation
"May such a king, this lord of men, be imperishable" — thus, O king, the townsfolk and country-folk speak in the city.
एता वाचः सुमधुरा भरतेन समीरिताः । श्रुत्वा रामो मुदा युक्तो बभूव नृपसत्तमः ।। 7.41.22 ।।
etā vācaḥ sumadhurā bharatena samīritāḥ | śrutvā rāmo mudā yukto babhūva nṛpasattamaḥ || 7.41.22 ||
Translation
Hearing these very sweet words spoken by Bharata, Rama, the best of kings, was filled with joy.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये श्रीमदुत्तरकाण्डे एकचत्वारिंशः सर्गः ।। 41 ।।
ityārṣe śrīmadrāmāyaṇe vālmīkīye ādikāvye śrīmaduttarakāṇḍe ekacatvāriṃśaḥ sargaḥ || 41 ||
Translation
Thus ends the forty-first sarga in the venerable Uttara Kanda of the holy Ramayana, the first poem composed by the sage Valmiki.
