तच्छ्रुत्वा हर्षमापेदे राघवो भ्रातृभिः सह । वाक्यं चाद्भुतसङ्काशं तदा प्रोवाच लक्ष्मणम् ।। 7.102.1 ।।
tacchrutvā harṣamāpede rāghavo bhrātṛbhiḥ saha | vākyaṃ cādbhutasaṅkāśaṃ tadā provāca lakṣmaṇam || 7.102.1 ||
Translation
Hearing this, Raghava, together with his brothers, was filled with joy, and then he spoke these wonderful words to Lakshmana.
इमौ कुमारौ सौमित्रे तव धर्मविशारदौ । अङ्गदश्चन्द्रकेतुश्च राज्यार्थे दृढविक्रमौ ।। 7.102.2 ।।
imau kumārau saumitre tava dharmaviśāradau | aṅgadaścandraketuśca rājyārthe dṛḍhavikramau || 7.102.2 ||
Translation
These two princes, O son of Sumitra, skilled in righteousness, are your sons Angada and Chandraketu, of firm valor when the kingdom's cause is at stake.
इमौ राज्ये ऽभिषेक्ष्यामि देशः साधु विधीयताम् । रमणीयो ह्यसम्बाधो रमेतां यत्र धन्विनौ ।। 7.102.3 ।।
imau rājye 'bhiṣekṣyāmi deśaḥ sādhu vidhīyatām | ramaṇīyo hyasambādho rametāṃ yatra dhanvinau || 7.102.3 ||
Translation
I shall consecrate these two upon a throne; let a fitting region be made ready, a delightful and unhindered place where these two bowmen may take their pleasure.
न राज्ञो यत्र पीडा स्यान्नाश्रमाणां विनाशनम् । स देशो दृश्यतां सौम्य नापराध्यामहे यथा ।। 7.102.4 ।।
na rājño yatra pīḍā syānnāśramāṇāṃ vināśanam | sa deśo dṛśyatāṃ saumya nāparādhyāmahe yathā || 7.102.4 ||
Translation
Look out, gentle one, for such a region where there will be no oppression of any king and no destruction of hermitages, so that we may commit no wrong.
तथोक्तवति रामे तु भरतः प्रत्युवाच ह । अयं कारुपथो देशो रमणीयो निरामयः ।। 7.102.5 ।।
tathoktavati rāme tu bharataḥ pratyuvāca ha | ayaṃ kārupatho deśo ramaṇīyo nirāmayaḥ || 7.102.5 ||
Translation
When Rama had spoken thus, Bharata replied to him: "This region called Karupatha is delightful and free from affliction.
निवेश्यतां तत्र पुरमङ्गदस्य महात्मनः । चन्द्रकेतोः सुरुचिरं चन्द्रकान्तं निरामयम् ।। 7.102.6 ।।
niveśyatāṃ tatra puramaṅgadasya mahātmanaḥ | candraketoḥ suruciraṃ candrakāntaṃ nirāmayam || 7.102.6 ||
Translation
Let a city be founded there for the great-souled Angada, and another exceedingly lovely and free from affliction, Chandrakanta, for Chandraketu."
तद्वाक्यं भरतेनोक्तं प्रतिजग्राह राघवः । तं च कृत्वा वशे देशमङ्गदस्य न्यवेशयत् ।। 7.102.7 ।।
tadvākyaṃ bharatenoktaṃ pratijagrāha rāghavaḥ | taṃ ca kṛtvā vaśe deśamaṅgadasya nyaveśayat || 7.102.7 ||
Translation
Raghava accepted that counsel spoken by Bharata, and having brought that region under his sway, he established Angada there.
अङ्गदीया पुरी रम्याप्यङ्गदस्य निवेशिता । रमणीया सुगुप्ता च रामेणाक्लिष्टकर्मणा ।। 7.102.8 ।।
aṅgadīyā purī ramyāpyaṅgadasya niveśitā | ramaṇīyā suguptā ca rāmeṇākliṣṭakarmaṇā || 7.102.8 ||
Translation
The lovely city of Angada, called Angadiya, was founded for Angada by Rama of unwearied deeds — delightful and well-guarded.
चन्द्रकेतोश्च मल्लस्य मल्लभूम्यां निवेशिता । चन्द्रकान्तेति विख्याता दिव्या स्वर्गपुरी यथा ।। 7.102.9 ।।
candraketośca mallasya mallabhūmyāṃ niveśitā | candrakānteti vikhyātā divyā svargapurī yathā || 7.102.9 ||
Translation
And for Chandraketu the wrestler a city was founded in the land of wrestlers, renowned by the name Chandrakanta, divine like the celestial city of heaven.
ततो रामः परां प्रीतिं लक्ष्मणो भरतस्तथा । ययुर्युद्धे दुराधर्षा अभिषेकं च चक्रिरे ।। 7.102.10 ।।
tato rāmaḥ parāṃ prītiṃ lakṣmaṇo bharatastathā | yayuryuddhe durādharṣā abhiṣekaṃ ca cakrire || 7.102.10 ||
Translation
Then Rama, and likewise Lakshmana and Bharata, unassailable in battle, attained the highest joy, and they performed the consecration of the princes.
अभिषिच्य कुमारौ स प्रस्थापयति राघवः । अङ्गदं पश्चिमां भूमिं चन्द्रकेतुमुदङ्मुखम् ।। 7.102.11 ।।
abhiṣicya kumārau sa prasthāpayati rāghavaḥ | aṅgadaṃ paścimāṃ bhūmiṃ candraketumudaṅmukham || 7.102.11 ||
Translation
Having consecrated the two young princes, Raghava dispatched them — Angada to the western land, and Chandraketu facing northward.
अङ्गदं चापि सौमित्रिर्लक्ष्मणो ऽनुजगाम ह । चन्द्रकेतोस्तु भरतः पार्ष्णिग्राहो बभूव ह ।। 7.102.12 ।।
aṅgadaṃ cāpi saumitrirlakṣmaṇo 'nujagāma ha | candraketostu bharataḥ pārṣṇigrāho babhūva ha || 7.102.12 ||
Translation
Lakshmana, son of Sumitra, accompanied Angada, while Bharata became the rear-guard escort of Chandraketu.
लक्ष्मणस्त्वङ्गदीयायां संवत्सरमथोषितः । पुत्रे स्थिते दुराधर्षे अयोध्यां पुनरागमत् ।। 7.102.13 ।।
lakṣmaṇastvaṅgadīyāyāṃ saṃvatsaramathoṣitaḥ | putre sthite durādharṣe ayodhyāṃ punarāgamat || 7.102.13 ||
Translation
Lakshmana, having dwelt a full year in Angada's city, then, when his unassailable son was firmly established, returned again to Ayodhya.
भरतो ऽपि तथैवोष्य संवत्सरमतो ऽधिकम् । अयोध्यां पुनरागम्य रामपादावुपास्त सः ।। 7.102.14 ।।
bharato 'pi tathaivoṣya saṃvatsaramato 'dhikam | ayodhyāṃ punarāgamya rāmapādāvupāsta saḥ || 7.102.14 ||
Translation
Bharata too, having likewise dwelt there more than a year, came back again to Ayodhya and attended upon Rama's feet.
उभौ सौमित्रिभरतौ रामपादावनुव्रतौ । कालं गतमपि स्नेहान्न जज्ञाते ऽतिधार्मिकौ ।। 7.102.15 ।।
ubhau saumitribharatau rāmapādāvanuvratau | kālaṃ gatamapi snehānna jajñāte 'tidhārmikau || 7.102.15 ||
Translation
Both Lakshmana, son of Sumitra, and Bharata, supremely righteous and devoted to Rama's feet, did not, out of their love, even notice the time that passed.
एवं वर्षसहस्राणि दश तेषां ययुस्तदा । धर्मे प्रयतमानानां पौरकार्येषु नित्यदा ।। 7.102.16 ।।
evaṃ varṣasahasrāṇi daśa teṣāṃ yayustadā | dharme prayatamānānāṃ paurakāryeṣu nityadā || 7.102.16 ||
Translation
In this way ten thousand years passed for them as they strove ever in righteousness and were constantly engaged in the affairs of the citizens.
विहृत्य कालं परिपूर्णमानसाः श्रिया वृता धर्मपुरे सुसंस्थिताः । त्रयः समिद्धा इव दीप्ततेजसो महाध्वरे साधु हुतास्त्रयो ऽग्नयः ।। 7.102.17 ।।
vihṛtya kālaṃ paripūrṇamānasāḥ śriyā vṛtā dharmapure susaṃsthitāḥ | trayaḥ samiddhā iva dīptatejaso mahādhvare sādhu hutāstrayo 'gnayaḥ || 7.102.17 ||
Translation
Having passed the time with their hearts fully content, encompassed by majesty and well-established in the city of righteousness, the three shone with blazing splendor like three kindled fires duly offered into the sacred flames at a great sacrifice.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये श्रीमदुत्तरकाण्डे व्द्युत्तरशततमः सर्गः ।। 102 ।।
ityārṣe śrīmadrāmāyaṇe vālmīkīye ādikāvye śrīmaduttarakāṇḍe vdyuttaraśatatamaḥ sargaḥ || 102 ||
Translation
Thus, in the sacred Ramayana, the first epic poem composed by Valmiki, in the venerable Uttara Kanda, ends the one hundred and second sarga.
